Although the archive is focussed exclusively on the two villages, on this page are some references to remote locations, facilities and events that have been a key part of local village lives over the years, but are now part of the past.
Rugby Cattle Market (1878-2007) – a key part of the agricultural scene over many years. Many will remember the regular Monday morning market near Rugby Midland Station.
The Royal Show at Stoneleigh (1963-2009) – a highlight of the agricultural calendar – and popular with those not involved with farming too.
Wolston High School (1956-1991) – A rural secondary modern school
The Plaza / Granada Cinema (1933-1976) – From the day went you went to “the Pictures” rather than to a “Movie”
Brandon Speedway (1928-2014) – the home of the Brandon Bees, Stock Car Racing and Greyhound Racing.
Industrial Sites – Ryton Rootes Car Plant (1946-2006), Bluemels (1911-1985)
Regent St Swimming Baths, Rugby (1932-1975) – many will remember being taken on a coach from school in Church Lawford to learn to swim there.
Rugby Town FC (1945-1973) – The semi-professional club that spent many years at one step below the Football League, playing at Oakfield in Rugby.
Highfield Road (Coventry City FC) (1899-2005) – A coach run by Marvins of Rugby used to take villagers to the matches in the days when the Sky Blues owned their own stadium.
