This is one of a number of reviews of the 1849 Tithe Registers, which look at the village layout and tenancies at that time, contrasting with the next main checkpoint of the 1918 Auction. The review is based on the tithe-holder name, looking at the various plots that make up their tithe commitment.
This review looks at three members of the Dalton family with tithes in the main village of Church Lawford.
Sarah Dalton was a shopkeeper, with a shop in what is now Smithy Lane. The blue dots on the various tithe areas highlight her three allocated tithes.
William Dalton was a butcher, and his two tithes are highlighted with a pink dot on the chart and map below. Whether there was an actual butchers shop, or just premises for butcher-related activities isn’t too clear.
Robert Dalton is also listed as a butcher in the tithe information, although he is not seen in the 1850 Business Directory in that trade. He has a village tide as indicated in green, and another tide which is linked to a property further south in the Parish, as shown with a green dot on the separate map.
These three Daltons are distinct from John Dalton, who operated at Limestone Hall, and George Dalton, who was based in Kings Newnham at Newnham Grounds.
