For many years the Village May Day celebrations included the crowning of a May Queen. Other village children were also given roles in the ceremony, such as May Queen Assistant or Maypole Bearer.

The ceremony was revisited in 1972 to mark St Peters’ centenary, with Christine Woodford chosen as May Queen in a ceremony organised by Mrs Martin, School Headmistress. Unfortunately the Rugby Advertiser report of the centenary fete was mixed up with another story, but they did publish a correction in a subsequent issue.
There is also a suggestion there was a May Queen elected for the 1991 May Fair and Flower Festival, although the details aren’t well documented.
