Church Lawford Census 1921

The Church Lawford census recorded in 1921 is the latest to be released into the public domain under the terms of the census act. As the census from 1931 was destroyed during the war years, and it was not taken in 1941, there will not be another released in this way for many years when the 1951 census is released.

Note that the Twissel and Twite families, George Perry and Elizabeth Ann Wainwright were listed as “being away”.

Although address details were scarce in the census in these times, given the manorial numbering scheme that was still in place, it is possible to roughly work out who lived where. For Church Lawford you can trace the main landowners / farmers by their property names. It is possible to follow the other villager names, starting at the bottom of Church Road (Robinson), working up to the green (Hannah Burnham), down Green Lane / Little End (Colledge), down School Street to Smithy Lane (Gilbert Whiteman). Back up School Street to the Triangle (Arthur / Fred Cooke) then down to Fog Cottages / Rugby Road (Worsdale / Holmes) and then to Lawford Lodge Cottages (Gibbs / Arnold) and the farms.
