In the early 1980s the Church Lawford and King’s Newnham Women’s Institute carried out an in-depth project to record the headstone memorials in St Peter’s Churchyard, with a focus on those from the 19th Century and earlier. The full report was produced as part of a National campaign by the WI to ensure such details were captured and preserved.

The report included a list of the memorials, a map of their locations, details of the inscriptions, details of the headstone shape and materials, and in many cases a drawing was made to accompany these details.

The overall report was accompanied by photographs of St Peters, as well as two notable line drawings of the current state of the two village churches – St Peter’s and St Laurence’s Tower in King’s Newnham.

The detailed report is now securely held at the Warwick Records Office. The Records Office also holds a record from the twentieth century which records memorials from the early period of the churchyard extension at the start of the century.
