1850 Gazetteer of Warwickshire

The earliest full Gazetteer entry for Church Lawford was in 1850. It was surprisingly detailed, with village history as well as description of current facilities, The church described is the original church, complete with the low tower. The Village Pub is now known as the White Lion, following references earlier in the century to The Red Lion and The Yeoman,

1871/72 – Imperial Gazetteer

The Imperial Gazetteer covered the whole of England and Wales. Notable in this outline is the reference to the post town being Long Lawford, something not mentioned in other references from the time. The church described is still the pre-1874 church.

1874 White’s Directory

The 1874 White’s Directory is from just a few years later, It references the rebuilt church, albeit with an error over the name.

1896 Kelly’s Directory – Church Lawford

The well respected Kelly’s Directory was published several times during the nineteenth century. This 1896 version gives a good insight into the village ahead of the major changes that came in the first 20 years of the next century.
