Village Stocks From Another Angle

Following the extensive searches and digging into sets of old photographs quite a few pictures of the Village Green in olden times have been found – as detailed here.

Church Lawford Green 1900

Additionally there is the debate about the Village Stocks which had further pictures, albeit being rather grainy newspapers copies – shown here.

Some of these pictures feature the Village Stocks, which were taken down at the start of the 20th Century, and they show similar landmarks around the stocks.

However, there is one further photograph, shown below, which has come to light, labelled as being the Church Lawford stocks, without the usual landmarks around them. This would have to mean the picture was taken from an opposite angle, but it is not easy to place whether the cottages in the background are those from modern day Green Lane, Church Road or School Street. Various other pictures of the old cottages in these areas do not seem to act as confirmation. If anyone can shed further light on this via the contact page it would be very useful.
